Having a high level of education is not only used to shine in society. According to Italian researchers from the University of Bologna, a very good level of education could be considered a protective factor against cognitive disorders related to multiple sclerosis (SEP).
Scientists conducted a study, published by the journal Restorative Neurology and Neuroscienceto analyze the ability of the brain of a person with MS, a progressive disease causing neuropsychological deficits, to compensate for pathological damage by focusing on task processing.
Among the factors taken into account, the researchers looked at the level of education and professional success, without forgetting the influence of fatigue on cognitive performance. Among the study participants, 50 MS patients were matched with 157 healthy people of the same age (40 years), gender and level of education (12 years of education on average).
After a series of tests, the researchers found that patients with a low level of education had poorer cognitive results than healthy controls, while patients with a very good level showed no difference.
