The Crit’Air sticker is used to select vehicles which may or may not have access to low-emission mobility zones (ZFE-m). It does not only concern private vehicles: motor homes (and vans) are also affected by these prohibitions.
Just like cars, motorhomes are subject to the Crit’Air sticker, this little badge now required to be authorized to travel in ZFE-m (Low Emission Mobility Zones). There are currently five in France: metropolitan areas of Grenoble, Lyon, Grand Paris, Rouen and the city of Paris. Access to these areas is regulated according to the age and motorization of the vehicle. Please note, the PTAC (Total Authorized Loaded Weight) is also an element to be taken into account.

Models with a GVW of less than 3.5 tonnes
When the motorhome has a GVW of less than 3.5 tonnes, it falls into the category of “light vehicles designed for the transport of persons and comprising, in addition to the driver’s seat, a maximum of 8 seats”. It is therefore subject to the same rules as any private car. (see table above).

Models with a GVW of over 3.5 tonnes
Some motor homes exceed this GVW of 3.5 tonnes. They then enter the heavyweight category, which does not exempt them from having the sticker, however, the criteria are changing:
Classification for diesels and similar:
- im registration before 09/30/2001: not classified
- Euro 3 (between 01/10/2001 and 30/09/2006 included): Crit’Air 5
- Euro 4 (between 01/10/2006 and 30/09/2009 included): Crit’Air 4
- Euro 5 (between 01/10/2009 and 31/12/2013 included): Crit’Air 3
- Euro 6 (from 01/01/2014) : Crit’Air 2
The Euro standard is written on the registration document (box V9). In the absence of this indication, it is possible to take the date from 1D registration.

An important criterion when buying a used motorhome
Active ZFE-m already prohibit heavy goods vehicles with vignettes ranging, depending on the city, from 3 to 5. Motorhomes falling into this category are therefore concerned. Offenders are liable to a fine of € 135. For motorhomes of less than 3.5 tonnes such as vans, access bans to the various ZFE-m are gradually being put in place. However, this ban is already active in Greater Paris (including Paris as well as the Bois de Boulogne and Vincennes): models with a Crit’Air 4 and 5 sticker are already excluded. The fine for infringement is 68 €. Things to take into account when selling or buying a used motorhome …
