The giant with a chrome smile is almost ready for production
This is not yet the production version of Maybach’s first electric car, but it is not far from it. This concept is called the Mercedes-Maybach EQS and it is a one off which shows what we can expect from the model that spearheads Maybach’s zero-emission future. And of course it’s a big and shiny SUV.
The car is on the same chassis as the Mercedes EQS and all other large electric models from Mercedes. The range of the EQS SUV will be approximately 600 kilometers, so expect the same from this Maybach. During that distance, you’ll enjoy an ‘extremely smooth and quiet driving experience and an unprecedented level of calm and relaxation in the interior’, we are promised.
Totally hip and calm
Maybach wants to target a younger audience. So, more digital is more better. In the front you will find the cinema-worthy hyperscreen, which is also in the Maybach S-class. In this concept you will also find all the technology that Mercedes currently has in house, such as an interior camera, which can see where the driver is looking.
In the back you can take a seat in one of the two large seats and enjoy the entertainment there. Mercedes also notes the continuous line that runs from the front of the interior to the rear, creating a sense of space and calm. There’s even a flower vase in the back to help your chakras run smoothly. But don’t worry, at Maybach they also know that you want to party every now and then, so there is also room for glasses and champagne under the vase.
Then the exterior of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS
You can’t really get around that grille, can you? Gorden Wagener, Daimler’s head of design, calls it ‘a progressive grille that gives the brand a completely new look’. It seems that the principle of BMW is followed here. Due to the two narrow LED strips that should form the headlights, the characteristic vertical bars appear even larger than they already are. The back is a bit quieter, with a single light strip. For those who have a lot of money, it is apparently more important that people see you arrive. It is not yet known when the final production model of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS will be available to order.
