Mercedes is exhibiting at the Düsseldorf Motor Show a Citan prototype in a glass version for individuals, converted into a small motorhome. An achievement full of promises which already gives us a foretaste of the future T-Class expected in 2022. Discovery.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the second generation of its small utility Citan. This model, closely derived from the Renault Kangoo, will have several strings to its bow. Alongside the panel van (Mercedes Citan), there will also be a glass version called Mercedes Citan Tourer, which will not be imported into France. (discover it nevertheless in our video presentation below)

A Citan to go camping?

In order to already seduce fans of camping as a couple, the star brand has just unveiled a prototype of the Citan Tourer arranged as a mini motorhome at the caravan show in Düsseldorf. This annual high mass celebrating both caravans, motorhomes and, by extension, all forms of outdoor accommodation, is the ideal setting to show a so-called “van-life” version of the new Citan. A variant converted into a small motorhome so as not to leave the field open to Volkswagen Caddy California and other Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Rifter arranged for campers. Mercedes also intends to remain present in this increasingly buoyant market.
“The clever layout of this prototype motorhome could be offered as an option on the Citan and the Mercedes T-Class.“
This furniture, consisting of bedding for two, a refrigerator, a sink and storage drawers, was designed by the German equipment manufacturer VanESSA Mobil Camping. It will be available to fit out the Citan and why not your future T-Class. This is already the case for the current Citan and also for the big brother Mercedes Marco Polo Horizon.

The Mercedes T-Class (2022) behind the scenes?

While waiting for the future Mercedes T-Class of 2022, this “glassed” Citan Tourer already gives us a fairly precise foretaste. If it resumes without surprise the lines and the format (4.50 m long for a wheelbase of 2.27 m) of the Citan tôlé, it is distinguished by its side windows, its two sliding doors on the sides and at the rear, by a tailgate instead of asymmetric hinged doors.

On board, we logically find the dashboard treated horizontally on which a 7-inch diagonal touch screen gives access to the multimedia system called MBUX. The Hey Mercedes voice command and buttons on the steering wheel complete the range. While a bench takes place in the second row. Under the hood, the engines will be common to the Citan and the T-Class with a 1.5 diesel unit offered in versions of 95 and 116 hp and a gasoline offer built around a 1.3 of 131 hp. A 100% electric variant, announced by the Mercedes EQT concept car, will also be on the program.
2 lengths and electric for the T-Class

Finally, the T-Class, like the Citan, will be available in two lengths: 4.50 and 4.91 m like the new Renault Kangoo. As for its French cousin, the extended version will comfortably accommodate up to seven passengers. Or, it will offer even more interior space in motorhome mode. Case to follow.
