Mercedes is currently testing an All-Terrain version of the C-Class on the roads of Spain. This raised and electrified station wagon is expected to be marketed in 2022 to compete with premium rivals Audi and Volvo.
[Mis à jour le 18/08/2021] The C-Class now officially has a new body called All-Terrain. Like the E-Class of the same name, it is a raised station wagon, dressed like an SUV and having a 4×4 transmission. The model will be launched, initially, with two engines (a petrol and a diesel). Its presentation to the public will take place on the occasion of the Munich trade fair (September 7 to 11).

The All-Terrain family will soon grow at Mercedes via the arrival of a ” little sister »For the E-Class All-Terrain. The new generation C-Class will also be available in a raised station wagon. Prototypes have been photographed for testing on the roads of southern Europe, and their camouflage cannot mask the increased ground clearance compared to that of the C-Class station wagon.
The C-Class in adventure gear
In addition to its increased ride height, this All-Terrain version should stand out from other C-Classes by black plastic body protections around its wheel arches, and protective skis under its front shields (which can be distinguished from on some shots) and rear. One or more driving modes dedicated to difficult terrain like gravel and snow could also be incorporated into its on-board electronics to complete the all-road vocation of the model.
4 x 4 and air suspension on the program?
The C-Class All-Terrain will likely take over the supercharged and electrified four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines from the rest of the lineup, with a standard nine-speed automatic transmission regardless of trim. It should be fitted with 4Matic all-wheel drive as standard. and a pneumatic suspension, already offered as an option for the C-Class sedan and station wagon, is to be expected in the catalog. On the other hand, it is unlikely that a sporty 63 AMG variant will see the light of day with this body. The Mercedes C-Class All-Terrain will compete with the Audi A4 Allroad and Volvo V60 Cross Country in 2022.
