Mercedes-AMG is presenting the EQE 43 4Matic and EQE 53 4Matic+, sporty variants of the electric sedan offering 476 hp and 626 hp respectively (and even up to 687 hp as an option). Both with four-wheel drive and steering, they must offer more than 500 km of autonomy.
In September 2021, at the Munich Motor Show, Mercedes presented the EQE in its entry-level 350 version. The manufacturer is today expanding the range of its electric sedan with two muscular variants signed AMG: the EQE 43 4Matic and the EQE 53 4Matic+. Both are twin-engine and therefore have adaptive all-wheel drive.
Up to 687 hp or 533 km range
The permanent magnet synchronous motors of these EQEs are unique to AMG. The EQE 43 AMG has a combined power of 476 hp for a maximum torque of 858 Nm. Enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 s and reach a top speed of 210 km/h. The 53 AMG model offers 626 hp and 950 Nm. It only takes 3.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and peaks at 220 km/h. Optional, the model can be equipped with the AMG Dynamic Plus package, bringing its peak power to 687 hp, its maximum torque to 1 000 Nm and its top speed of 240 km/h, while improving its 0 to 100 km/h time by 0.2 s. According to Mercedes’ estimates, which remain to be confirmed during homologation, the lithium-ion battery with a useful capacity of 90.6 kWh and a voltage of 328 V can offer:
- between 426 and 533 km of WLTP autonomy on the EQE 43;
- between 444 and 518 km on the EQE 53.
Ground connections reworked by AMG
These two AMG-badged EQEs are fitted as standard with four-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension. In the Comfort driving mode optimized for range, the latter automatically lowers the ground clearance above 120 km/h and raises it below 80 km/h. The Sport and Sport+ programs lower the ride height by 15 mm when stationary. These modes also affect the power and torque available; they are supplemented by a “slippery road” setting. The damping is specially calibrated for these dynamic variants of the EQE.
The electric motors can provide sufficient braking in many everyday situations, with three levels of recuperation, the choice of which is made using paddles on the steering wheel. But, with their curb weight of 2,525 kg, these machines with sporting claims require more than that, and Mercedes-AMG has not skimped on braking. On each of them there are six-piston calipers at the four corners and 415 mm diameter discs at the front. These can be increased to 440 mm as an option, provided you also opt for the 21-inch rims capable of housing them. For comparison, a Bugatti Chiron has 420 mm front discs.
A discreetly sporty look
Externally, these Mercedes-AMG EQE are first recognized by the chrome vertical pillars which adorn their black front body panel, ensuring a stylistic kinship with the thermal AMGs with Panamericana grille. The shields are also specific, and we notice at the front of the air intakes highlighted by a glossy black finish. The trunk is surmounted by a spoiler.
The cabin receives sports seats with partial microfiber upholstery, as well as a flat steering wheel among other specificities. The Hyperscreen triple screen extending over the entire width of the dashboard remains optional, as does the AMG Track Pace on-board telemetry system. Several types of artificial sounds depending on the driving are proposed. The details of the equipment and prices for the French market should be known soon.
