Unlike Joe Biden or Queen Elizabeth II, not all French politicians are ready to be vaccinated against Covid-19. A brief overview.
While vaccination against Covid-19 is due to begin in France in January with residents of Ephad, our politicians are gradually revealing whether or not they are going to be vaccinated. In England, Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip assume to be vaccinated as a priority, to encourage the British to take the plunge. Still abroad, the Presidents of the United States Joe Biden and Barack Obama, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Emir of Dubai Mohammed ben Rashid Al Maktoum have already agreed to play “guinea pigs”.
Gabriel Attal
On BFMTV, government spokesman Gabriel Attal assured that he would be vaccinated against Covid-19 when he had the opportunity. “If we did it first without respecting the recommendations, we would be asked about ‘finally don’t you use yourself before the others?’”, he argued, questioned about the usefulness of getting vaccinated first to set an example.
Emmanuel Macron
Discreet on the issue, President Emmanuel Macron also assured that he would be vaccinated against Covid-19 during his interview for Brut. “I will do it when it makes sense and fits our strategy,” he explained. “I’m not at all going to do the opposite of what I recommend for the population. And today, we are not telling people to ‘vaccinate’, ‘vaccinate’ at all costs and for the whole population, we have another strategy”. he elaborated.
Jean-Luc Melenchon
Regarding his vaccination against covid-19, the LFI deputy explained that he had not “not yet asked the question”, and that he “I will do what seems right to me and no doubt what my doctor, whom I trust, tells me”.
On the set of BFM Politique, Jean-Luc Mélenchon repeatedly expressed his doubts about the vaccine against Covid-19. “Not reassured”, he is particularly concerned “of a vaccine that depends on such a cold chain”, as is the case with the one developed by the Pfizer and BioNTech laboratories which must be stored at around -80°C. “The slightest break, you will not see it before seeing the effects”, he laments. The new messenger RNA technology also arouses mistrust among the left-wing political leader. She “results from a process that is not the one we knew until now in terms of vaccination. We all cross our fingers that messenger RNA is the right idea. But in the meantime, we don’t we’re not sure”, he recalls.
Roselyne Bachelot
The Minister of Culture, who had been vaccinated with a smile in front of the media against the H1N1 flu when she was Minister of Health, is clearly changing her strategy and will only be vaccinated after the priority populations. To justify himself, Roselyne Bachelot recalled on BFMTV-RMC: in 2009, “I get vaccinated, telling myself that the fact that the Minister of Health at the time is getting vaccinated is an element of confidence in vaccination. Well, there are conspiratorial networks who have claimed that I had been vaccinated with saline and that there was no active substance in the injection!”.
Marine Le Pen
The president of the National Rally Marine Le Pen indicated on France Inter that she will be vaccinated against Covid-19 but that she “prefer to wait for a traditional vaccine”. Like Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the far-right MP is wary of messenger RNA vaccines. “We have no perspective on these vaccines. We have developed a vaccine that usually takes five to ten years to develop”, judges the political leader.
Michel Onfray
Very shaken by the disease, the political philosopher Michel Onfray indicated on Cnews that he hoped to be able to receive the vaccine against Covid-19 as soon as possible.“What I went through, I don’t want others to go through. I think you have to protect yourself by protecting others too”, he explained to Laurence Ferrari.
This Monday, December 14, 2020, there are more than 72 million cases of coronavirus worldwide and 1.6 million deaths. 57,911 people died from Covid-19 in France.
