Everyone in line for some discount
‘Tell them that you are Dutch, without telling them that you are Dutch’, as the internet joke goes. Yesterday Eindhoven ran out because there was some advantage to be gained at the pump. The gas station at the Flight Forum sold explosive water for 1.45 euros per liter and 1.11 euros for diesel. And that in times when petrol prices are over 2 euros. The news went around the internet and in no time there was a big traffic jam in front of the gas stations.
There were – literally – people in their pajamas with their bath slippers filling jerry cans. Bystanders report that there were at least 50 cars in line to refuel. The price per liter was about 60 cents below the nearest pump. With a tank of 40 liters, it saves about 24 euros. Broadcasting Brabant asked the gas station attendant whether it was a stunt or a mistake, but the employee could not answer. After an hour, around ten o’clock, the price was adjusted again. Then you could get a liter of Euro95 for 1.88 euros.
