On the night of Thursday 11 to Friday 12 January, a 9-year-old boy was brought to the emergency department of the Lourdes hospital. He died shortly after his admission.
The child, originally from Argelès-Gazost in the Hautes-Pyrénées, had been suffering from the flu for several days. He was treated at his home and watched by his parents. Last Thursday, seeing that his condition was worsening, his mother decided to take him to the hospital. A few hours later, the drama occurs.
A psychological unit set up in his school
The Regional Health Agency (ARS) of the Occitanie region only speaks of “flu symptoms”, as reported South West. She invokes “medical confidentiality” and does not give details on the cause of the death of the little boy, whether it is the consequences of the flu or if he suffered from other pathologies.
The boy was educated at the Jean Bourdette school. A psychological follow-up was set up by the Academic Inspectorate from Friday January 12th. It aims to support and accompany the teachers and other students of the school as well as those schooled in the college of the little boy’s sister. A listening cell will also be set up.
