A report on the future of hospitals in France commissioned by the Prime Minister in High council for health insurance recommends a total reorganization of hospitals on the territory. While until now the trend has been more towards the closure of small structures, the High Council proposes “a dense network of the territory” with 550 to 600 hospitals of a new type, called “community health establishments”.
These local hospitals “refocused on general medical activities, particularly in geriatrics” would make it possible to relieve Emergencies, often overwhelmed by the influx of patients. For a simple sprain, for example, the patient would no longer clutter the emergency room but would seek treatment in one of these “community health facilities”.
These structures would also be able to support pregnancy monitoring and chronic diseases.
