A producer has withdrawn from sale lots of pig’s feet contaminated with listeria. Three departments of the South-West are concerned.
Pig’s trotters, watch out. Products were withdrawn from sale in three departments of the South-West due to contamination by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. The dishes in question are produced by the company Pascal Massonde, located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, which has withdrawn two products made from pork.
The first are cooked plain, the others are breaded. Both are sold in the self-service department in filmed trays and were marketed between January 5 and February 16 in several brands in Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques. The lots concerned are 4, 13, 18, 23, 26, 27.
“In case of doubt, it is advisable to inquire with the store to know if the purchased product is concerned by the alert”, indicates the prefecture of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in a press release.
“The company in permanent contact with the health authorities, immediately mobilized and immediately put in place all the necessary measures to withdraw all the products concerned from sale and inform consumers”, adds the prefecture. .

Posters to inform consumers have been set up in the stores concerned by the sale. The prefecture asks “people who have bought these products from the self-service department to check with the store to see if they are concerned” and to those “who hold these products not to consume them and destroy them, or to have them reimbursed ”.
“People who have consumed the pork trotters cooked plain or breaded mentioned above and who have a fever, isolated or accompanied by headaches, are invited to consult their doctor by notifying him of this consumption”, adds the prefecture. , warning in particular pregnant women, immunocompromised people and the elderly.
A telephone number (05 59 93 90 30) to answer consumers has been set up by the company specializing in Basque food products.
Serious infection
Listeriosis is a serious foodborne infection. While the bacteria that causes it is frequently the cause of minor digestive disorders, severe forms can affect susceptible populations.
On his website, the Institut Pasteur recalls that listeriosis can “lead to sepsis or infection of the central nervous system. In pregnant women, it can cause abortion, premature delivery or neonatal infection ”. Each year, around 300 cases of listeriosis are recorded in France. “It is nevertheless fatal in 20 to 30% of cases occurring outside pregnancy.”
