Its richness in vitamin C and anti-oxidants makes lemon the healthiest food in the world.
- According to a new study, lemon is the healthiest food in the world.
- To reach this conclusion, the researchers studied a list of 47 foods.
- In particular, they quantified their fiber, nutrient, vitamin, sugar and calorie content.
According to a new study published in the scientific journal Preventing Chronic Diseaselemon is the healthiest food in the world.
47 foods studied
To reach this conclusion, the researchers studied a list of 47 foods commonly eaten in the United States, evaluating their nutrient, vitamin, fiber, sugar and calorie content. This list included green vegetables, red vegetables, orange vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and legumes.
Once the analysis was done, the scientists first found that of the 47 foods studied, 41 fell into the category of “powerhouse fruits and vegetables” (PFV), i.e. products with a strong positive impact on health.
Lemon, a fruit very rich in vitamin C and antioxidants
Green vegetables came first in the ranking (watercress, Chinese cabbage, chard, etc.), followed by red vegetables (tomatoes, peppers) and orange vegetables (carrots, pumpkins, etc.).
Incidentally, the first fruit to appear on the researchers’ list was the lemon. Indeed, lemon is very rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which are important nutrients for health. It is also very low in calories and sugars. And while its tangy flavor may make it difficult to consume on its own, it can be added to salads, water or tea.
PFV foods help maintain good health
Studies have already shown that PFV foods can help reduce the risk of developing serious conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity and certain cancers. These foods may also help boost the immune system, improve digestion, and promote healthy skin and hair.
By identifying PFV foods, the results of this study can help people make the most optimal nutritional choices possible.
