The Land Rover Defender range is expanding in every sense of the word, with the arrival of a 130 model, 5.36 m long and offering eight seats. Its crossing capabilities are not forgotten, nor the comfort on board.
As promised, Land Rover today unveils the Defender 130, a family variant of its all-terrain can carry up to eight people on board. This new version of the 4 x 4 therefore completes the range alongside the Defender 90 (three-door) and Defender 110 (five-door). These numbers, although they no longer indicate the wheelbase of the vehicles in inches as in the past, still make it possible to differentiate the body lengths offered.
An animal of the great outdoors
The wheelbase of the Defender 130, precisely, is identical to that of the Defender 110 with 3.02 m indicated on its technical sheet. The lengthening of the vehicle, which amounts to 34 cm to reach 5.36 m, is therefore essentially located on the rear overhang. The stern has been slightly redesigned as a result and adopts a shield which rises towards the rear. This allows the 4×4 to display a departure angle of 28.5°, enough to remain able to leave the beaten track even if you are far from the 40° of the Defender 110. The 130 model has two seats at the front and two benches with three seats each in a 2+3+3 configuration. When all the rear seats are folded down, the cargo volume reaches 2,516 L. It is 389 L in the eight-seater configuration.
A comfortable family adventure
The Defender 130 adopts a more upscale positioning than the 90 and 110 versions. From its basic finish, it is entitled to an 11.4-inch central touch screen, a double panoramic roof and an adaptive air suspension. Four-zone climate control and heated second- and third-row seats are available as options. The 130 is also the only one in the range to be able to receive the new “Sedona Red” body color as well as an extended “Bright” pack comprising various decorative elements in satin-finish metal.

No Defender 130 for France?
The Land Rover Defender 130 is announced with a range of engines exclusively composed of six-cylinder micro-hybrid, three in gasoline and three in diesel with powers ranging from 250 hp to 400 hp. Eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. No plug-in hybrid variant is announced at this time. This probably explains why, for the moment at least, nothing is said about marketing in France where the penalties on CO2 and weight could be right for the commercial viability of the car. In the United Kingdom, this family adventurer starts at £73,895, or around €87,000.
