However, in autumn and winter, when the seasonal depression occurs, the sun is lacking …
Vitamin D deficiency associated with depression
A new study unveiled at a psychology congress in Milan further amplifies the supposed impact of lack of vitamin D on the mind. The study of more than 200 patients followed for psychological disorders, whose health data was compared to a control group, showed that vitamin D deficiency was detected systematically in these depressed patients.
Apart from the concentration of vitamin C in the blood samples, the study also identified the duration of exposure to the sun of the patients followed. And again, a clear correlation between the duration of exposure, and depressive symptoms, has been established.
Who is responsible for the depression or vitamin D deficiency?
Unpublished thing, the study envisages that the depressive ones, in deficiency of vitamin D, can for obscure reasons flee the sun and the light, even though exposure to the sun and light could benefit them and help them get out of this summer. At the moment, it is not possible to know if it is the depression which keeps away from the sun and the possibility of synthesizing vitamin D, or if it is the deficiency of vitamin D which causes the depression.
