Jeep is launching for the Renegade and Compass a motorization called e-Hybrid whose hybridization, although light, allows these SUVs to run on electricity alone in certain conditions. These two models are entitled at the same time to a new finish called Upland.
Jeep “greens” its Renegade and Compass twice. Firstly, these two SUVs are now available with a brand new hybrid engine, which can also be found under the hood of the Alfa Romeo Tonale. On the other hand, a finish that gives pride of place to recycled materials enriches their respective catalogues.
A new type of hybridization at Jeep
The Jeep Renegade e-Hybrid and Compass e-Hybrid are powered by a new 1.5L four-cylinder Miller cycle turbo petrol engine sending 130hp and 240Nm of torque to the front wheels through a dual-clutch transmission with seven reports. This unique transmission incorporates a 20 hp and 55 Nm electric motor (135 Nm out of the gearbox) powered by a dedicated 48 V circuit, capable of driving the front wheels alone over short distances at very low speeds. Starting and maneuvering can therefore be carried out without using the thermal block.
Recycling invites itself (a little) on board
The new e-Hybrid engine, like the 4Xe all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid powertrain, can be combined with a new finish called Upland. This is positioned between the middle and top of the range, more precisely between the Limited and S configurations. It can be recognized by its light blue “Matter Azur” body color contrasted by black rims and roof, as well as by some bronze-colored details, but also to its black sticker with geometric patterns on the bonnet.
The seats are covered with canvas partially made from plastic recovered at sea and recycled. Exclusive logos and light blue stitching adorn them. Some black plastic interior inserts are also recycled. The Jeep Renegade Upland starts at €36,150 in the e-Hybrid version and €44,100 in the 4Xe. The Compass Upland asks for 41,950 € in e-Hybrid and 49,500 € in 4Xe.
