After the horse in lasagna, here are the feces in the pies… We really don’t know what we can eat!
Presence of coliform bacteria
Last month, following the scandal of horse meat discovered instead of beef in prepared dishes (lasagna, shepherd’s pie, moussaka, etc.) from various brands such as Findus, Ikéa carried out checks on its food products for sale in its cafeterias. The Swedish brand has discovered traces of horse meat in its meatballs and in its pork and beef hot dogs. Ikéa immediately suspended the sale of the offending products.
But bad news for the Swedish giant, now the spotlight is on some of its chocolate tarts … The health authorities of the port of Shanghai have intercepted 1,800 “chokladkrokant” from the Ikea brand. Those chocolate pies, almonds, buttercream and caramel made by the Swedish company Almondy, were intended for Chinese customers.
Products withdrawn from sale
After several tests, the General Administration of Quality Control, Inspection and Quarantine found “an excessive level of bacteria coliforms “, according to the newspaper Shanghai Daily. These bacteria are often a sign of faecal contamination.
A spokesperson for the Ikéa group, Ylva Magnusson, made it clear that “there are indications that the levels of bacteria discovered are low but we obviously need to know the exact figure, and know what happened. ” There would therefore be no health risk.
In the meantime, the desserts recovered by Chinese customs have been destroyed and Ikéa has withdrawn the “chokladkrokant” chocolate tarts from sale in 23 countries.
