Barely a year after the launch of the Ioniq 5, Hyundai is updating its vehicle by equipping it with a larger 77.4 kWh battery from the Kia EV6. Optional camera mirrors are also appearing, while the suspensions have been corrected.
Less than a year after its marketing, the Ioniq 5 is already undergoing alterations. At the end of 2021, information was circulating about a possible update to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, accompanied by the appearance of a larger battery. It is now confirmed. The Korean manufacturer is equipping its crossover with the same accumulator as its cousin the Kia EV6, thus going from a capacity of 72.6 to 77.4 kWh.
500 km range in sight
For the moment, Hyundai has not yet communicated on the gain in autonomy offered by this larger battery. But, taking into account the performance of the Kia EV6, which has the same platform, the Ioniq 5 could benefit from 10% more autonomy. Equipped with the 77.4 kWh accumulator, the SUV could travel between 470 and 530 km in WLTP cycle.
Currently, the 72.6 kWh Ioniq 5 oscillates between 430 and 481 km. The software part is not left out. The Seoul brand will also offer the possibility for the Ioniq 5 battery to precondition itself in order to optimize its charging. The function will activate as soon as a charging point is entered in the on-board navigation system.
Camera mirrors
Like some electric vehicles like the Audi e-tron or the Honda e, the Ioniq 5 will offer – as an option – mirror cameras instead of traditional mirrors. Already available on the Korean model, the system will now be offered on its European counterpart. The interior rearview mirror is also concerned and can become a screen, projecting what is happening behind the vehicle via a camera located under the rear spoiler.

Hyundai also indicates that its vehicle gains in comfort thanks to “Smart Frequency Dampers”, a feature improving the front and rear suspensions. Deliveries of the corrected Ioniq 5 are scheduled for the second half of 2022, with the price still pending. As a reminder, the SUV is currently displayed from €43,600 equipped with the 58 kWh battery and €46,800 with the 72.6 kWh battery.
