The toxic shock linked to the rules is again talking about him in French hospitals, after having disappeared for several years. Doctors sound the alarm and warn about the recommendations to be observed to avoid the worst.
Change tampons every 4 hours
A few days ago, the toxic shock linked to the rules (SCT), a relatively rare but potentially extremely dangerous syndrome was again talking about it under the leadership of the National Reference Center for Staphylococci in Lyon. This body has indeed shown that this infection, which is triggered in women carrying Staphylococcus aureus, during menstruation, more and more victims each year, even though she had disappeared in the 90s.
Faced with the resurgence of these SCTs, women are advised to be careful when they have their period and to follow a few guidelines. Since it is when a woman uses a tampon that she is likely to trigger the overgrowth of harmful toxins, scientists studying this syndrome advise changing it every 4 hours and using sanitary napkins at night.
Symptoms similar to those of gastroenteritis
The first symptoms of a SCT can go unnoticed as they resemble those of a common winter disease: headache, fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea and mild dizziness. If, in addition to these symptoms, sunburn-like rashes appear, it is time to contact your doctor or go directly to the emergency room.
Treating toxic shock involves eliminating the bacteria with antibiotics. If diagnosed too late, the consequences of such an infection may be irreversible. In 2012, a model, Lauren Wasser, got a lot of publicity about toxic shocks associated with periods thanks to her story. The latter, after having done a TBS, had to be amputated of a leg that had necrosis.
