Medicines and natural solutions can prevent and relieve motion sickness so that the vacation journey does not turn into an ordeal.
- Motion sickness is also called motion sickness.
- It can be caused by a mismatch between the different information provided by our senses. Our eyes and inner ear tell our body that we are moving, when we are actually sitting stationary.
Malaise, cold sweats, nausea, vomiting… When you have motion sickness, the symptoms are anything but pleasant. To be able to take the train, the car, the plane or the boat serenely here are some recommendations.
An anti-nausea
First before departure, it is advisable not to leave on an empty stomach but it is not a question of not eating too fat or too heavy either, which could complicate digestion and make you sick more easily.
Taking anti-nausea drugs is particularly effective, such as antihistamines or scopolamine, in the form of a patch to be applied behind the ear at least 4 hours before the trip. Regarding antihistamines, they are not recommended if you drive because they can cause drowsiness.
Metopimazine can also help, it acts quickly and prevents vomiting but does not really prevent the symptoms of motion sickness.
essential oils
Against nausea and digestive disorders, the use of inhalations of essential oils of peppermint and lemon whose action is fast can be useful. Breathing a few drops on the wrist is enough. It is possible to repeat this operation as often as necessary.
But the best-studied natural solution, and recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) for combating nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness, is ginger. Thanks to its active principles, it acts on the cerebral receptors involved in the gag reflex and it regulates the muscular contractions of the digestive tract. The only form whose effectiveness has been proven by clinical studies is ginger dry extract powder, 1 g per day.
acupuncture
An effective technique is also to find a specific acupuncture point: point P6 which is located almost halfway up the forearm, on its inner part, and to exert continuous pressure there for a few tens of seconds, using the thumb, to relieve the symptoms of motion sickness.
