Adopting a protein diet allows you to lose weight but also to sleep better, according to the results of a study published in the American Journal of Nutrition. Especially for overweight or obese people.
Nutritional science researchers from Purdue University (USA) conducted a pilot study with 14 participants and the main study with 44 overweight men and women. Some of the volunteers followed a classic diet and the other high protein.
Scientists found that after 3, 4 months, participants who ate a high-protein diet to lose weight reported an improvement in the quality of their sleep.
“Short duration or poor quality sleep frequently leads to metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, as well as premature death,” explains Jing Zhou, the lead author of this study. “Given the high rate of sleep disturbances, it is important to know how dietary and lifestyle changes can improve sleep.”

As vegetable proteins have the same effect on satiety as animal proteins, and they are less harmful to health, they can be put on the menu. You can eat legumes associated with cereals, anti-craving pulses, soy-based proteins, oilseeds or seitan. Because the excessive consumption of animal proteins promotes the appearance of cancers and diabetes and inflame the colon.
