The FNAIR sent a letter to the Minister of Health for more information on the shortage of hepatitis B vaccines which is very damaging for dialysis patients.
The hepatitis B vaccine is one of the essential vaccinations for people with renal insufficiency, in particular for hemodialysis patients awaiting a renal transplant. But for several days, the National Federation of Aid to Renal Insufficiency (FNAIR) is alerted by its regional representatives and by several dialysis structures about a worrying disruption in the supply of these vaccines.
This no longer makes it possible to ensure everywhere a care in accordance with the recommendations, she worries. Doctors are therefore led to make choices which may lead to a loss of opportunity for some patients.
“The only information we have today, explains the FNAIR, shows”strong tensions“on the supply of the two hepatitis B vaccines now available in France, since the end of the marketing, in November 2016, of GENHEVAC B PASTEUR (Laboratory Sanofi Pasteur MSD): ENGERIX B 20 (Laboratory Glaxosmithkline) and HBVAXPRO 10 (MSD Vaccines) ”.
Inaction by the Ministry of Health
Consequently, the distribution of these vaccines to the hospital would be subject to quotas, indicates the federation. The situation is even worse in town where “it would be purely and simply interrupted”. Faced with this unprecedented situation, no information about a possible return to normal is given to the associations. The latter are also awaiting recommendations relating to vaccination against hepatitis B in times of shortage which should soon be proposed by the HCSP (High Council of Public Health). But to date, they have no visibility on their publication. Always the same lack of information on the part of the public authorities.
In reaction, the FNAIR therefore sent a letter last Wednesday to the Minister of Health, Marisol Touraine, asking that she provide a precise update on the situation (duration of the shortage, possible access priorities during the shortage, etc. .) “This information is necessary for us so that we can inform our associative network”, she insists.
