Calls to SAMU are on the rise. But despite the hot weather at the start of the week, the AP-HP has not recorded an increase in the activity of emergencies.
The heat wave vigilance continues in the 39 establishments of the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP). To track the consequences of the high heat episode and prevent overflowing with activity, they monitor heat-related symptoms in patients admitted to the emergency room. The AP-HP carries out daily check-ins and has ensured a sufficient supply of beds, in order to identify and deal with any upsurge in activity.
It also took care of its technical installations, to ensure the proper functioning of the cooling systems, in particular for operating theaters and computer rooms.
Wednesday June 21, the hottest day of the week in the capital, the SAMU centers in Île-de-France recorded a 20% increase in calls. But in terms of emergencies, no particular overflow of activity.
“Like yesterday (Tuesday, June 20, editor’s note), however, we do not see, at this stage, any impact on the overall number of emergency visits, explains the AP-HP in a press release. The same is true for the number of admissions or transfers downstream from the emergency department, in the AP-HP departments. “
Risky behaviors
On the other hand, admissions of people aged over 75 are on the rise. In younger people, the first severe cases of hyperthermia have also been observed. They are often linked to risky behavior in hot weather, especially playing sports and drinking alcohol. But for an evening of music festival, it would seem that the Parisians were generally reasonable.
