To fill the hole of Social Security, Health Insurance launches major maneuvers. The objective is sizeable: to save “nearly 3 billion euros over three years, including approximately 715 million euros in the 1st year in 2016”, details an annual report, entitled “expenses and products”, of which AFP obtained a copy. The document, which must be presented Thursday to the board of directors of the CNAMTS (national health insurance fund for employees), offers several major projects to achieve these significant savings.
For example, the shortening of hospital stays, after childbirth and after orthopedic operations, should bring in more than 836.4 million euros over three years.
Hospitals are also called upon to “take responsibility” financially by regulating the transport costs of their patients, which are too high for the State. Expected savings: 546.8 million euros over three years.
“Lighter” prescriptions
Physicians will also be involved since they may be asked to step up their efforts to extend the use of generic drugs and prescribe less sick leave. Improving the prescriptions of antidiabetics, for example, should make it possible to achieve 336 million euros in savings.
Health insurance is pushing for better prescriptions but also for better prevention of chronic diseases such as overweight, obesity, diabetes, kidney failure or osteoporosis. Social Security has understood that improving prevention, for example dental care, all the more lightens the slate linked to the aggravation of these minor ailments.
