Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer was in Dijon, alongside Brigitte Macron, Monday March 5 to talk about measures to fight against bullying at school. During a press point at the Lycée Carnot, the Minister announced the generalization of student ambassadors in all colleges and high schools in France. The objective is to prevent harassmentand cyberstalking by promoting prevention “by peers”. Concretely, the trained high school students initiate preventive actions with their classmates or other students from surrounding colleges and schools. “This device makes it possible to enhance the role of students and give them responsibilities within their establishment”, explains the Ministry of Education on its website.
The “seeds of ambassadors” device, already tested since 2005 in certain high schools, will be generalized to offer pupils “from college onwards, the possibility of bringing these subjects to bear after a meeting with the academic teams of trainers”.
10% of students affected by bullying
“Bullying affects around 10% of students, it can ruin their life, it spoils their studies, it spoils the atmosphere of the establishments. It is therefore very important that everyone is sensitive to this “, underlined the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer, during a press point, taken up by AFP.
The student ambassadors will be able to play the role of relay with the students in a situation of harassment: “The ambassadors are essential, because they are the relays. We, the teachers, we have a privileged relationship with them, [mais] sometimes we are not the right contacts because they are afraid that we do not understand them, “said Brigitte Macron, former professor of letters, taken over by AFP.
18% of college students say they have undergone at least an infringement via social networks or by mobile phone according to a survey by the statistics department of the Ministry of National Education published in December 2017.
