Japanese smoothing: for whom?
Japanese straightening is suitable for women who have curly or frizzy hair, and no longer want to go through the brushing box every morning.
The technique is also suitable for frizzy hair (if they have not been straightened with soda before). For colored hair, straightening is possible, provided they are repaired beforehand (nourishing and moisturizing care). But if they are very discolored, they are too weakened: smoothing is not recommended.

Japanese smoothing: the technique
We act on the structure of the hair by modifying its shape by means of ammonium thioglycolate (dilute ammonium salts recognized for their tolerance). Non-corrosive, this product softens it, then ceramic plates will permanently give it a new smooth shape. Its interest, compared to a classic straightening (well known for frizzy and too aggressive hair)? It is the contribution of care active ingredients (collagen, proteins, amino acids) which penetrate into the heart of the fiber at the same time as the smoothing formula.
In practice
The hairdresser must work carefully to position each strand in the direction of growth and thus avoid creases. A delicate operation that lasts between 3 and 6 hours depending on the length and hair mass of the candidate.

Japanese smoothing: maintenance
It is forbidden to wash your hair for the next three days, so that the smooth shape is permanently imprinted. We do not tie them and we do not put them behind the ears for a week. You also have to wait a month to color or wicks. When we follow these recommendations, the wand effect lasts indefinitely on the lengths. As the hair grows back (and the curls with it), the roots are “touched up” after six to eight months to keep them perfectly smooth.

Japanese smoothing: products under close surveillance
Behind the proposals of certain websites and specialized brands often hide smoothing products imported from Brazil and the United States, pinned by Afssaps (French Agency for the safety of health products) and banned in France.
They contain formaldehyde, which damages the hair: It is a derivative of formalin added to traditional keratin to fix the smoothness for longer. Problem: this substance transforms the hair into a material as fragile as crystal, quick to break.
They cause allergic reactions: Formaldehyde causes eye, respiratory or skin irritation, and even burns to the hair and scalp.
They are also toxic for the hairdresser : This molecule presents a real danger for the professionals who use it. It can lead to asthma attacks and long-term cancer risk.
