The World Health Organization has acknowledged that bird flu has spread in China. The current report shows 60 cases including 13 fatal.
“There is nothing to predict how the disease will spread, but it is not surprising that we have new cases in different places, as was the case in Beijing,” the representative told reporters. ‘World Health Organization (WHO) in China, Michael O’Leary.
Chinese authorities reported on Saturday the case of a 7-year-old girl carrying the virus in Beijing. She was hospitalized in the capital and her parents were placed in quarantine. They are poultry dealers. The little girl must have contracted bird flu from them.
Two other cases have been reported in central China, in Henan province. One 34-year-old resident is hospitalized in critical condition, while the other, a 65-year-old farmer, is in stationary condition. Their entourage was placed under observation. No symptoms have been reported so far.
In Shanghai, Beijing and now in Henan Province, local authorities are taking measures to try to stop the spread of the virus: slaughtering tens of thousands of birds, closing live poultry markets, banning shopping and releases.
With these three new cases, China officially has 60 cases of bird flu, of which 13 have died.
