10,000 volunteers no less. google launches an ambitious project whose objective is to compile a lot of health data on a large panel in order to establish the cartography of a healthy human body. It’s Verily, the health subsidiary of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, which will take charge of this titanic work which ultimately aims to learn more about the human body and prevent certain diseases. How? ‘Or’ What ? By collecting a wide range of data, both genetic and information relating to lifestyle, in relation to sleep by means of a sensor placed under the pillow, or even concerning physical activity, heart rate.
Conclusions not before 5 years
The project does not date from today but from 2014. But until now there were only 175 volunteers. Now Google sees things big and has a base of 10,000 American participants.
For four years this panel will be followed. A period during which all health indicators will be dissected: the genome will be sequenced through Study Watch, a smart watch with several sensors and designed for the occasion, explains the site Numerama.
And after ? The data will not be used immediately since Google is counting on a period of 5 years before being able to draw conclusions from this meticulous study.
