The English terms uppercase and lowercase for uppercase and lowercase letters can still be found in Dutch in the old-fashioned terms lowercase and uppercase. They date from the time when newspaper pages were still made up of lead letters that were taken from a type case by the typesetter. Word has some functions for making capital letters small, for example, but that won’t help you if you’ve typed a message on Facebook with CapsLock on.
