The French no longer trust the government in the face of the coronavirus epidemic according to an Odoxa-Dentsu Consulting poll for Franceinfo and Le Figaro.
Faced with the coronavirus epidemic, the French do not trust the government. This is the result of an Odoxa-Dentsu Consulting survey for Franceinfo and Le Figaro. This survey was carried out via the internet on March 24 and 25, 2020, on a sample of 1,005 French people representative of the French population aged 18 and over.
French people in favor of tightening containment
Nearly three-quarters (70%) believe that the government “don’t tell the truth”“does not make the right decisions at the right time” and “does not do what is necessary to equip hospitals and caregivers in the face of the epidemic”. In addition, 55% of those questioned consider that the government has not taken the measure of the seriousness of the situation and 69% that it is not clear. Almost eight out of ten French people (79%) believe that the government does not know where it is going.
Among the criticisms made of the government, almost all French people (97%) are convinced that there is indeed a shortage of masks in France, and two-thirds of them (65%) believe that it is the current government that is responsible for it. However, a third (32%) believe that it is not their fault and that they are doing what is necessary to catch up. As such, 88% believe that the confinement decision should have been taken earlier. To get out of the crisis, most respondents want the government to be bold. Thus, 6 out of 10 French people want the government to speed up and follow the chloroquine option proposed by Professor Didier Raoult without waiting for the results of the clinical tests in progress.
Regarding containment, the French approve of containment measures. They are more than nine out of ten (95%) to approve of the confinement put in place and 94% say they respect it. If Emmanuel Macron has not yet extended the confinement, 85% of those questioned believe that it will last at least four weeks. They are almost as many (88%) to be in favor of a tightening of containment and 87% to want a tightening of sanctions. However, 42% of them admit to experiencing this quarantine with difficulty.
