“The flu had exceeded the epidemic threshold on December 22, according to our method of calculation” explained to AFP, Laurent Toubiana, the head of this new network, epidemiologist at Inserm (National Institute of health and medical research).
For the week of December 29, 2014 to January 4, 2015, an estimate of 159 cases of influenza per 100,000 inhabitants was observed in mainland France. This incidence rate is above the epidemic threshold of 121 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The regions most affected by influenza viruses are Burgundy, Champagne-Ardenne, Île de France, Lower Normandy, Poitou-Charentes (La Rochelle), Rhône-Alpes and Nord-Pas-de- Calais, according to a press release from Irsan.
Regarding the gastroenteritis, the epidemic threshold has just been reached, with 332 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on January 5 (threshold set at 324) with high incidences in Perpignan, Ajaccio, Nice, Lorient, Troyes, Mulhouse, Amiens, Nîmes, Paris and Toulouse.
To protect against viruses from influenza and gastroenteritis, wash your hands regularly, before eating, or after taking public transport. To protect others, it is also advisable to sneeze into a tissue, which you will then throw in the trash.
