Faced with the high circulation of the flu virus in France, the authorities have extended the vaccination campaign until February 29.

As the flu epidemic, now present in all metropolitan regions, intensifies, the vaccination campaign against this winter virus has been extended by an additional month.
Flu : the vaccination campaign is extended until the 29th FEBRUARY
“In a context of high circulation of various respiratory viruses, the health authorities have decided to extend the flu vaccination campaign until February 29, 2024 (instead of January 31)“explains theHealth Insurance in a press release of January 25.
In fact, the flu gained further strength in mid-January. The rate of consultations for influenza-like illness rose to 266 cases per 100,000 during the week of January 15 to 21. In addition, illness represents 15.2% of SOS Médecins’ activity. (+4.2 points).
Vaccination remains one of the most effective means of combating the disease. It is particularly recommended for people at risk who are likely to develop a serious form. “For these populations, the vaccine is fully covered by Health Insurance and represents the best way to protect yourself from the virus and its complications”adds the press release.
The organization estimates that the flu vaccine saves 2,000 lives per year in France among seniors aged 65 and over.
Flu : keep the reflex of barrier gestures
In addition to vaccination, respecting barrier gestures is an effective way to fight against the circulation of influenza. It is therefore recommended to:
- to carry the mask in case of symptoms, in busy places and in the presence of vulnerable people;
- of wash your hands after going outside, taking public transport (bus, car, train, metro)upon arriving at the office or at home or even after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing…;
- ventilate regularly the rooms of the home or office.
