The retirement home of Vic-sur-Seille records a significant number of contaminations by the influenza virus. She therefore decided to isolate the residents.
Christmas in quarantine … The 62 residents of the retirement home of Vic-sur-Seille (Moselle) have been confined in the establishment since December 18, due to a strong flu epidemic, according to France Bleu Lorraine. About 40 residents are infected but no serious cases have yet been reported.
No more visitors can enter the establishment, until further notice. As for the residents, they are not allowed to go out. Only essential deliveries are allowed, such as food and medicine.
“Everything is secure”
This is a first in this town. “It was preferable, given the number of patients, explains the mayor of Vic-sur-Seille and president of the Sainte-Marie nursing home, Jérôme End. We preferred to take all the necessary precautions on the establishment side. All the families understood the device ”.
According to the elected official, “there is still the comings and goings of staff but everything is secure in terms of microbial.”
Little vaccination among seniors
The flu epidemic has taken a lead this year, 9 of the 13 regions in the country have passed the epidemic threshold. According to the estimates of Public Health France, it is the very virulent H3N2 virus which circulates in majority. The latest epidemiological bulletin reports an increase in infections among seniors. 239 people were hospitalized with complications from the flu. Almost two-thirds are over 65 years old. This fragile population is far from isolated in the corridors of the hospital. Of the at-risk patients targeted for vaccination, half were not vaccinated. However, this reflex makes it possible to limit severe cases, even when the strain of the virus does not correspond.
