For a street car
Which car is faster around Circuit Zandvoort, a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup or a 911 GT2 RS MR? Well, it makes damn little difference. During the weekend of the Dutch GP, Laurin Heinrich drove a time of 1:38.270 in the thoroughbred race car. Now Dutchman Larry Ten Voorde takes the record for the fastest lap time at Zandvoort in a road car. His time in the GT2 was 1:38.20. The GT2 RS MR weighs more than the GT3 Cup, but with 700 hp it also has almost 200 hp more. We are curious what the GT2 would do on non-street-legal slick tires.
‘Really cool! This time attack was quite a special experience’, said Ten Voorde. “I was particularly impressed with the power and the handling of the car was really good. And the big question was of course: is the Arie Luyendyk corner full? Well, I can now wholeheartedly agree: yes, it works! Although with a squeezed buttocks, because that was quite exciting, but it is possible. It was great to be able to do this time attack for Porsche!’
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR
The Manthey Racing package consists of new parts for the front spoiler, a carbon fiber underbody, a new rear spoiler, a modified diffuser and aerodynamic covers on the rims. The result is 21 kilos of extra downforce on the nose and 107 kilos of extra downforce on the rear at 200 km/h. In addition, there are adjustable dampers, special racing brake pads, steel brake hoses and magnesium wheels that save a total of 11.4 kilos in weight. There is also a water tank on board so that the capacity of the intercoolers increases by 9 liters.
The MR kit for the already insanely fast 911 GT2 RS can now be ordered from the Porsche dealer. That is why this modified GT2 simply counts as a production car. For that reason, Porsche was also able to take the lap record for the fastest production car on the Nürburgring with this GT2 RS MR. Then Lars Kern was behind the wheel. In the case of the new fastest lap time at Zandvoort, Porsche got help from GP Elite to set up the car.
The fastest lap time at Zandvoort in an F1 car
The record for the fastest lap time ever at Zandvoort is currently not held by a Dutchman. It was seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton who set the record this summer at the renovated Zandvoort. He drove a time of 1:11.097 in his Mercedes F1 car during the Dutch GP. The question is whether the new F1 cars – which will be running next year – are fast enough to break the record. Incidentally, Max Verstappen drove faster in qualifying. With a time of 1:08.885 he took pole position. But when it comes to official records, only race times count. And Hamilton’s was faster.
