Since 1 July, informal carers are more likely to be eligible for social housing. According to the new Housing Act, informal carers fall into the urgency category.
When drawing up an emergency regulation, the municipality uses the official definition of informal care as a starting point. This is described in the Social Support Act 2015, and reads as follows: ‘help for self-reliance, participation, sheltered housing, shelter, youth care, the upbringing and growing up of young people and care and other services as referred to in the Health Insurance Act, which results directly from an agreement between persons existing social relationship and which is not provided in the context of a helping profession’.
How you can apply for an emergency declaration differs per municipality. It is recommended that you consult the housing association for this.
