After a 2021 season with a scenario worthy of a Hollywood film, fans are impatient at the idea of finding drivers and teams on the circuits. In 2022, a new technical regulation intervenes profoundly modifying the single-seaters. Let’s discover the new look of the cars.
The 2021 F1 season ended with an anthology scenario where Max Verstappen went for his first world title on the last lap of the final Grand Prix. In 2022, the show promises to be no less spectacular with the entry on the track of new single-seaters complying with new technical regulations. What is changing? Where and when to see the pilots at work? The argus offers you a guide to the 2022 season to slip into your favorites.
New regulations for 2022
Initially scheduled for 2021, the new technical regulations – due to the Covid pandemic – come into force in 2022. The FIA’s objective is to reduce the gaps between the teams. It wants to allow drivers to follow each other more closely in the race and thus facilitate overtaking. When a car loses 45% of its downforce when approaching a competitor, in 2022, the loss will be limited to 14 %. A big advantage to get closer in turns without risking leaving the track. Ailerons will play a less important role and most of downforce will be generated by ground effect, a first for years 80. This regulation has the consequence of transforming the appearance of the single-seaters that we have known until now.

The 2022 calendar
In addition to the new single-seaters, the big change in this 2022 edition is also to be seen on the side of the circuits. First of all, let’s note the return of the great classics of Formula 1 such as Melbourne, Canada, Singapore and even Suzuka. A new challenge is coming : Miami. Fifth round of the season, its 5.4 kilometer route includes 19 turns but also 3 straight lines and as many DRS zones.
The route of the Miami Grand Prix will wind around the stadium of the Miami Dolphins, an American football club.

Pre-season testing
In 2022, the precious pre-season tests take place at:
- Barcelona from February 23 to 25 (behind closed doors)
- Bahrain from March 11 to 13.
We can then have a slightly clearer idea of the new forces involved, stables that will have been able to take advantage of this new regulation. Due to the change in regulations, lap times will be slower than in previous years. There is no doubt that the engineers will quickly find solutions to make these single-seaters of a new era faster. To be continued.
