There is no shortage of goodies affiliated with the world of Formula 1! But the Grail for any enthusiast is to be able to afford a real accessory that belonged to a pilot or a single-seater. The auction site Catawiki offers a selection of items for sale from various stables and from various periods. The argus has selected 10 for the most knowledgeable collectors. Please note that auctions end on March 24 at 8 p.m.
Official pilot accessories…
This tour of the owner could not begin otherwise than with the last world champion, Max Verstappen. The lot in question includes a pair of gloves used during the 2018 season as well as a certificate of authenticity signed by the Red Bull team. Bids could reach €4,500 if we are to believe experts’ estimates. It is impossible to talk about the Dutch driver without mentioning his great rival: Sir Lewis Hamilton! One of the centerpieces of this sale is none other than a replica of the helmet of the seven-time world champion. The visor was also signed by the pilot himself. The helmet is a Bell RS7 2021. It is estimated by experts between €4,250 and €4,750.
Two combinations then caught our attention. The first is that of Rubens Barrichello. The Ferrari driver used this outfit during the Silverstone Grand Prix in 2002, one of the only races where the logos of a famous tobacco brand did not appear. The second auction concerns a combination of Nico Rosberg (Mercedes). The certificate confirms that the German driver wore it during the 2013 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix where he finished in 3and square.
…and other unusual items
Let’s continue in textiles with gloves from the Ferrari team (2021), signed by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. Their particularity? They were exclusively supplied by Maranello… to the mechanics. The Catawiki site also highlights two visors of the two official Alpine drivers for the 2021 season. Each is signed and was used on a race weekend. Among other proposals, there is a shoe (and not a pair!) that belonged to Jean Alesi in 2005. A competition boot that the French driver never used in F1, but in DTM.
More wacky, a set of four F1 wheels is displayed on the site. This has two front and rear tires, the softest of the 2016 season, recognizable by their purple sidewalls. Traces of wear are clearly visible even if their condition is relatively good. These same marks can also be found on the bonnet of the 2009 Force India single-seater, driven by Vitantonio Liuzzi. Again, an official certificate is sold with this lot. We end this top 10 with what should be the most expensive piece of this sale: a complete rear wing from a 1970s/1980s Ferrari is available. The auction platform estimates it at between €4,500 and €7,500. The price to pay to afford a complete piece of one of the fastest cars in the world.
