This study in the Journal of Nutrition should swallow your urge to grab a giant slice of pizza tonight before the soccer game. Pizzas, sundaes, burgers and any labeled food junk foodcan lead to a greater risk of inflammation, cancer, infection and allergic reactions. Worse, if this craving for bad fats and sugar approaches addiction, you risk burning it into your DNA. And your children could be marked too.
The study suggests that every food choice permanently disrupts the bacterial balance in our intestines and, in turn, can weaken the immune system. “Our bodies are a kind of mini-ecosystem and anything can disturb our bacteria and alter our health profoundly”, explains Ian Myles of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Maryland, quoted by the American magazine Time.
Concretely, an unbalanced diet, which concerns more and more in Western countries, upsets the immune system and can promote the occurrence of autoimmune diseases, diseases resulting from a dysfunction of the immune system type type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis or rheumatoid arthritis.
“To our great concern, our bad eating behaviors are imprinted in both our DNA and our gut microbiome. These bad immune changes are transmitted to our offspring during their development,” says Ian Myles.
