A paid software update frees up more power
Software interventions for better performance are nothing new. Twenty years ago you could delete the System32 folder from your computer for better loading times. With petrol cars you can have a tuner change the software for a little more power – also called chipping. At Polestar you can now perform a software update for extra power in the Polestar 2. Via the webshop you check the update and when all bits and bytes are in, the car is no less than 68 hp more powerful.
The extra power for the Polestar 2 is available for the Long Range Dual Motor. After the update, the new power is 476 hp and 680 Nm. Polestar connoisseurs recognize this number. The converted Twee that went for a spin at Goodwood earlier this year already had this update installed. By the way, the update is not free. Customers have to pay 1,000 euros for the extra power. The update is for customers in the UK, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, Germany and Austria.
This does extra power to your Polestar 2
The sprint to 100 km/h shrinks by 0.4 seconds to 4.4 seconds. The acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h (also called the frustration sprint, for example if you were stuck behind a truck) takes 2.2 seconds, making the Polestar 2 with the extra power half a second faster than the regular version. The update was quietly made available and has already been downloaded 400 times, Polestar proudly reports.
