Are you regularly exposed to pesticides? And if so, at what dose? To find out if the products and vegetables you consume, if the soil in your garden or even if the air you breathe is polluted by the local use of pesticides, an associative company from Toulouse, Solagro, has created an interactive map of France.
To find out your level of exposure, simply enter your municipality or zoom in on the map. Then the site gives you an estimate of the frequency indices of treatment by farmers in your environmentthese are called IFTs: which “corresponds to the number of doses of phytosanitary products applied per hectare during a crop year”, notes Solagro.
Areas to avoid, safe areas
The North of France (Somme, Aisne, Eure et Loire), the Bordeaux region, the South East, are among the most polluted areas according to the map, called “Adonis”, named after an endangered messicole plant due to the use of herbicides. Besides, its presence is a good indicator to know if your environment is more or less polluted : the more you see, the less you are exposed to it.
If you live in the Drôme, in the Gers or in the Manche, you are in the least polluted areas of metropolitan France! As a reminder, pesticides are associated with an increased risk of cancerneurodegenerative diseases, respiratory diseases… To protect yourself as much as possible, opt for organic food, avoid using pesticides yourself, and ventilate the air in your home as much as possible.
