Without our necessarily noticing it, certain everyday gestures affect the general posture of the body. The latter becomes unbalanced, and pain may appear. Strong or moderate, chronic or occasional, these end up penalizing the daily life of all those who endure them.
The consequences of poor posture
The first risk is the appearance of pain, especially in the back and neck. These can intensify during the day, but also extend to other parts of the body. Also, some people experience joint pain. These various ailments, very unpleasant at the time, can fade when you move. Nevertheless, it can happen that the suffering persists, and turns into chronic pain.
Improper body positioning also affects muscles, nerves, tendons, blood circulation, and even the digestive system. More serious pathologies can then develop, such as lumbago, herniated discs, sciatica, or even carpal tunnel syndrome.
Finally, the pain leads to stress and fatigue in the patient, which ultimately affects his morale.
Situations that require special vigilance in maintaining the body
Several situations can promote poor posture:
- Sedentary work, where the employee sits for many hours without being able to move;
- work that requires repetitive movements;
- improperly used equipment or tools, such as a computer screen positioned too low;
- stressful situations, where the body stiffens;
- pregnancy, which shifts the body’s center of gravity.
In case of pain, do not hesitate to consult a general practitioner. The latter can, if necessary, redirect the patient to specialists.
