The batch of blood glucose meter strips affected by this recall would have caused an overestimation of the blood glucose result in 5 out of 100 French users. This overestimation is not to be taken lightly because it may lead to inappropriate treatment of the patient. and hypoglycemia.
The lot of strips in question bears the number 470049, and concerns 27,000 boxes which were distributed in dispensing pharmacies between October and December 2010. The Afssaps specifies that it is unlikely that the strips belonging to this batch are still available.
However, patients in possession of “Accu-Chek Performa” strips bearing the lot number 470049 are advised not to use them and to return them to the pharmacy.
Roche Diagnostics France has also set up a toll-free number (0800 948 297) to answer all user questions.
