The Battlefield game turns into a ‘connected universe’ as EA goes ‘all in’ and puts more resources into the series than ever!
The developer is also renewing the structure of its studios to support that vision. Despite the lukewarm reception (to put it generously) for Battlefield 2042. “As a whole, we’re all-in on Battlefield,” said EA Chief Operating Officer Laura Miele at GameSpot. “Together we are out to unlock its enormous potential.”
EA all-in with Battlefield
Multiple studios in North America and Europe would work on Battlefield games and experiences. One of these is Battlefield Mobile, which is due out next year. Vince Zampella, the head of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Apex Legends studio Respawn Entertainment, is now in charge of the Battlefield franchise. In addition to producing the original Call of Duty, he has worked on Titanfall and Medal of Honor games. Someone with a lot of experience and the expectations are therefore high.
“We plan to build a Battlefield universe, one with multiple projects interlinked with the player in the middle,” Zampella said. “We will continue to develop and grow Battlefield 2042, exploring new types of experiences and business models along the way that we can add to that foundation to deliver a great set of experiences for our players.”
Long-term plan
EA takes it seriously and takes over several people from other developers. Also, Byron Beede, another Call of Duty veteran, now works at EA. He says EA has a “long-term plan” for the series. However, the focus is currently on supporting Battlefield 2042. That’s why a patch has just been rolled out that focuses on the clunky UI of Battlefield 2042 and has fixed a lot of bugs. So we can expect a lot from the game in the near future.
