The Battlefield 2042 game was launched with a lot of fanfare, but now it turns out that it can’t live up to expectations.
The game is published by Electronic Arts (EA) and was launched in June 2021. So in the middle of the corona pandemic. It’s a first-person shooter set in the near future, 2042. It’s all about a great war for humanity. The publisher is now telling investors that the project was too ambitious.
Battlefield 2042 expectations
What makes the game special is that there is a multiplayer mode for up to 128 people. It also has dynamic weather conditions, such as impressive storms. The CEO of EA said that these two big ambitions led to problems. The coronavirus also played a role in this. This is because many employees had to work from home and could therefore not develop the game in the office. This has had consequences for the quality. Battlefield 2042 therefore did not receive high ratings from players and reviewers.
takeover
This also impacted EA’s bottom line. The company earned less money in the third quarter. Profits plummeted from $211 million to $66 million. This lower profit, and therefore a lower turnover, makes EA a possible takeover prey. There are already rumors that several parties are interested in taking over the company.
This is partly due to the recent large takeovers. For example, Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard for a sample sum of more than $60 billion. Sony couldn’t stay behind and bought Bungie for 3.2 billion. Experts say the takeover storm isn’t over and EA could be the next “victim.”
