In a report, the Court of Auditors is concerned about the consultation fees charged by certain specialists, in particular dentists. One in five French people would even give up treating their teeth for lack of resources.
10.6 billion euros in dental spending each year
This is not the first time that the Court of Auditors has highlighted the poor coverage of dental care by the public authorities in France. Corn since 2010, the situation would have been ” aggravated “. This is what the institution reveals in its annual report on Social Security, published Tuesday, September 20.
According to this work, Health insurance reimburses only 33% of the 10.6 billion euros in dental expenses (this figure was 36% in 2006) and complementary only cover 39% of these same expenses. The remainder of the charge for the patient therefore remains very high. In 2012, nearly 4.7 million patients would have given up seeking treatment when their state of health required the fitting of dental prostheses.
Strong inequalities in access to healthcare
This situation would result in “ strong inequalities in access to healthcare according to income », Note the Sages of rue Cambon. While negotiations between dentists and Health Insurance should start soon, the Court of Auditors calls for the development of a new convention with ” ambitious and binding objectives “.
The rising cost overruns, which represent half of the income of the country’s 34,000 dentists, are part of the problem. The share of these overruns in the total fees has increased ” from 47.9% in 2005 to 52.5% in 2014 “ and ” no medicalized expenditure control measure has been implemented », Regrets the Court of Auditors.
