Going to work using public transport would make us three times more stressed than if we could walk there. This is the finding of a study conducted by the Office for National Statistics in the United Kingdom, relayed by Le Figaro. Are there more risks of burning out when taking the metro? Explanations.
With BFM TVIle-de-France users describe their ordeal: the anxiety of arriving late, the time spent in transport, the discomfort due to the excessive number of people in the train, the insecurity felt… Especially since, as the newspaper reminds us, for several months, the network of the capital and its surroundings has been suffering from a lack of personnel, in addition to its technical problems.
Hyperanxiety, burnout, cardiovascular disease
In the English study, the researchers estimate that the most anxiety-provoking form of transport is the bus. But in reality, it is above all the conditions that pose a problem, such as the excess of people. Ultimately, this can have a significant impact on health, with the development of cardiovascular diseases, by weakening the immune system, but also by straining the mind.
This is not enough to cause burnout, believes psychiatrist Antoine Pelissolo, interviewed by BFM TV, but he recognizes that it can clearly contribute to it, especially in people with “prior anxious tendencies”. Public transport used daily can play on the development of hyperanxiety, he notes. On the sidelines, he mentions the problem of uncertainty linked to schedules, which is literally exhausting.
