The tiger mosquito, identifiable by its black and white stripes on the body, continues its progression on French territory, and it once again shows its taste for stays on the Côte d’Azur. Indeed, the Regional Health Agency of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region has just confirmed 5 new imported cases of dengue (Alpes-Maritimes, Var and Vaucluse) and 6 imported cases of chikungunya (Bouches-du-Rhône , Var, Alpes-Maritimes). Good news, however: no indigenous case has been identified.
The health watch of the tiger mosquito currently applies in 70 departments but, for the moment, only 18 departments are in red vigilance, that is to say identified as departments where the tiger mosquito is implanted and active. These departments are those of the PACA region, the south of the Rhône-Alpes region, part of the Midi-Pyrénées region and Aquitaine.
The fight against tiger mosquitoes
– Limit the laying places: by reducing the possibilities of laying eggs, you will reduce the number of mosquito births. Their breeding sites are located in stagnant water such as saucers in flower pots, old tires, puddles, ponds, … Avoid leaving water there to prevent females from laying eggs.
– Change the water in the vases at least every 24 hours, over time it becomes a real culture broth, you can add a few drops of bleach to it,
– Cover your water reserves, your rain cisterns to prevent mosquito laying.
– Turn over objects in which water can accumulate: wheelbarrow, boats and boats, to prevent them from retaining water.
