In order for the deconfinement “to take place in the best possible conditions”, the National Academy of Medicine published a series of recommendations on April 5. Among them, an exit from confinement region by region and not by age group.
- The Academy of Medicine has just published its recommendations for deconfinement
- She recommends an exit by region rather than by age group
The post-crisis period begins to be envisaged. On April 4, the WHO announced that “thehe epidemic curve of Covid-19 shows that a plateau is beginning in the 53 Member States of the WHO Euro zone”. Also, while the French government announced that the confinement will extend beyond April 15, 2020, the National Academy of Medicine published a report recommending in particular an exit by region, and not by age group, or even the maintenance of health barrier measures. The goal being that the end of confinement “take place under the best conditions for the management of serious cases in health establishments, for limiting the spread of the virus, for resuming professional activities, and for understanding by the public.she explains in a press release published on April 5.
The Academy first recommends that the “exit from containment is decided on the basis of the region and not by age group”. In addition, this exit should only be authorized in regions in which a sharp decrease in the number of Covid-19 patients requiring hospitalization has been observed. Furthermore, “people residing in a region coming out of confinement” should not be allowed”to go to a region still in a situation of confinement”.
Logically, the end of confinement will not guarantee an immediate return to “normal life before”. Thus, the “liberation” of a region will have to be “maintaining the ban on gatherings (except in exceptional cases, such as funerals, for which the maximum number could be 20 people), maintaining health barrier measures (hand washing, hydro-alcoholic gel, etc.), but also of their reinforcement by the compulsory wearing of an anti-projection mask for the general public, even if it is homemade, in public space”says the Academy.
Do not rely on individual biological tests
To decide the end of the containment for a region, the Academy also recommends that this choice is not based on the results of individual biological tests “whose availability and reliability do not appear to be assured in the short term, and whose operational implications will be a source of confusion”.
This is why serology studies for epidemiological purposes in the general population should be launched as soon as possible in all countries on a regional basis in order to determine a possible second wave of contamination. Finally, the Academy invites “that the population is informed about the health benefits of these measures”. It also calls for accelerating the production of a vaccine to overcome the virus.
Recently, several European countries as well as Australia announced that they were beginning to test the effectiveness of the vaccine against tuberculosis (BCG) in large-scale studies on the medical personnel of the hospitals. However, the trials will have to last at least two or three months in order to be able to collect reliable data, reminds Inserm.
Beware of poisoning
This press release from the Academy appears while in recent days, erroneous information concerning deconfinement has circulated on the web. Sunday April 6, host Cyril Hanouna notably showed on television a French map illustrating the dates of release from confinement region by region, which was circulating on social networks.
“A first part of France released on May 4, a second on May 11 and the last on May 18 (..) I don’t know if it’s good info but it’s info that’s spinning so I’m telling you given”he explained during his show Hello Baba on C8 Sunday, April 6. After which, the authorities hastened to rectify the situation. This card “is false”, it’s a hoax, don’t trust it, they insist.
#FakeNews A false map of France indicating “deconfinement forecasts” by region is currently circulating. It contains the logos of several state services. This is a fake.
