A 7-year-old boy has died of an ear infection in Italy. He was only treated with homeopathy when he should have received antibiotic treatment.
The death of a little boy in Italy sparks heated debates on social networks and in Italian newspapers. Affected by an ear infection, the 7-year-old child died a few days after being admitted to the emergency room. His parents only gave him homeopathy granules.
“We can’t just do homeopathy. This treatment is only valid at the inflammatory stage of an ENT disease in children, i.e. at the very beginning, reminds Why actor Dr Antoine Demonceaux, homeopathic doctor in Reims (Marne). But if the fever persists and the general condition of the child deteriorates, it is no longer the responsibility of homeopathy. We must prescribe antibiotics ”.
Suffering for 2 weeks from this ear infection, the boy’s parents continued the homeopathic treatment despite the warning signs. It was not until he lost consciousness that they took him to hospital. He fell into a coma due to neurological complications related to the infection, he died 3 days later. The parents explained that they had been treating their son’s ear infections only with this alternative medicine since he was 3 years old.
Homeopathy can’t do everything
For Dr. Demonceaux, this tragic story is only linked to a fault in the conduct of the parents. “It is obvious that a child who is not treated for an ENT infection will develop acute encephalitis or meningitis and die from it. It is not the homeopathy which is in question, but the parents ”, he laments.
The general practitioner emphasizes that the consequences would have been the same if these parents had given their son paracetamol. “Homeopathy cannot mask the symptoms of an infection, unlike paracetamol which can reduce fever or pain. Thus, if the effectiveness of homeopathy is not convincing in the hours which follow the beginning of the treatment, it is necessary to consult his doctor “, he asserts.
