Florian Rossi, the companion of the singer Louane, spoke about the diplacusia which affects one of his ears.
- The musician Florian Rossi suffers from diplacusia.
- “Diplacusia” causes the same sound to be perceived in the form of different frequencies between the two ears.
- This ENT disease is treatable but in some cases it cannot become permanent.
I thought I was going to stay “stuck like that”. In an Instagram story that has now disappeared, the companion of the singer Louane, Florian Rossi, confided that he suffered from an unusual illness which affects his ear.
Diplacousis triggered by an otitis
“I had diplacousis, it started in July following an ear infection which degenerated a little”, explained the musician. “Basically, it’s when the diseased ear perceives a sound at a different pitch from the healthy ear. You can imagine the cacophony and therefore the hell that it can be. Impossible to make music, to listen music, being in noisy places”, he clarified.
“In any case, if it can help people not to panic and to be patient, here it is: it is a symptom which is not common and therefore it can be very frightening when it occurs, but over time , even if it is quite slow, it is resolved”, Florian Rossi was also positive.
Frequency of diplacousis
Diplacousis can affect anyone, but it is most common among musicians and people who have hearing loss in one ear or who begin to lose hearing. Those who develop diplacusis usually notice it suddenly after exposure to loud noise, an ear infection, or head trauma.
Treatment of diplacousis
“If your diplacousis is caused by an obstruction, your hearing may return to normal once the obstruction is removed or the infection clears up.” explain Doctor Costa on his website. “Diacusis caused by sensorineural hearing loss can become permanent, but it can be treated with hearing aids or cochlear implants. Aural rehabilitation and/or ear training can also help your brain adapt.” concludes the ENT doctor.
It is estimated that 10 million people have a hearing problem in France.
