Wearing a mask and using hydroalcoholic gel will still be in order this summer. To support them, some tips may be useful.
- In some departments, wearing a mask outside is no longer compulsory. This is the case of the Alpes Maritimes or Lozère.
- The decrease in all the indicators of the epidemic is confirmed for the fifth week in a row.
Outside, the end of the wearing of the mask will be done “in a differentiated way on the territory” assured the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, during his trip to the Lot on June 2. On a national scale, the prospect of walking through the streets with your face uncovered therefore remains remote, and the high heat of the coming summer will make wearing a mask more complicated.
Change your mask as soon as it is wet
The simple act of breathing is more difficult in the summer when wearing a mask. In fact, the heat slows down the penetration of air into the lungs, a smaller quantity is inspired and the person is more out of breath than usual. To limit this harmful effect, it is better to opt for a white mask or light colors, which retain less heat than dark shades. Also favor natural materials such as cotton, which facilitate breathing more than synthetic ones such as polyester.
Another problem of the coming summer: perspiration under the mask, which hinders breathing and humidifies it. We therefore generally exhale stronger and more droplets when it is hot, which also increases the risk of contamination. Thus, you have to change your mask as soon as it gets wet, generally before the four hours that are usually recommended.
Wipe away perspiration with a wipe
To change your mask, you must wash your hands before handling. To wipe sweat from the face, use a cooling wipe or handkerchief and throw it away immediately afterwards. Then, grab the new mask by the elastics and adjust it once it is on. This must cover the surface from the bottom of the chin to the nose, even if it is hot.
Moisturize your hands after each wash
In summer, the skin is more sensitive due to its prolonged exposure to the sun. It is therefore necessary to favor washing your hands with soap and water, which are less aggressive than hydroalcoholic gel. However, as it is necessary to always have these small portable solutions on hand when needed, it is preferable to buy those respecting a certified formula, which will certainly be less aggressive for the hands.
The ideal is also to put moisturizer after washing. Finally, remember that hydroalcoholic gels are only useful if you touch common surfaces such as switches or buttons. On the beach, therefore, there is no need to brush it on every hour!
